Making Baby Food

So I have gone a few days without writing and I have lots of thoughts running through my head.  My little man has been sick the last couple days so we have spent lots of time cuddling and squeezing in chores in between cat naps and coughs.

One thing I have wanted to share is my love of making baby food. I have really enjoyed making Grady the majority of his “solidish” foods. (I do keep a few jars of organic baby food on hand just in case.)  A friend of mine gave me a great baby cook book called Top 100 Baby Purees by Annabel Karmel. It has been a wonderful reference; full of a variety of meal ideas sorted by what is appropriate or recommended at each stage of baby’s development.

I have followed a lot of the recipes (especially in the beginning) but as he has gotten older we have had fun putting our own twist on the different meals.

My two favorite things I use while making his baby food is the magic bullet and the rubbermaid easy find lid set (.5 cup size). The bullet blends the food perfectly, however I am sure a blender or food processor would be fine too. I love the little rubbermaids because they are a nice travel size and similar size as baby food jars. Also, they can go in the freezer!

One of Grady’s favorite meals (that he is still eating on thanks to freezer storage) was a chicken, sweet potato, and apple dinner. I baked the chicken, sweet potatoes, and apples in the oven with a little unsalted butter and cinnamon until chicken was fully cooked and potatoes were tender. Throw it in the bullet with some water (or whatever milk baby drinks), and it is ready to go!

Another simple idea that Grady gobbles right up every time is cauliflower with a little cheddar cheese.  Yum!

Hope this little bit of info can be helpful in some way! : )

ooey gooey slimy kisses

Do you ever get those moments in life when you are just so overwhelmed with love? I have found that in this past year I get that feeling most often when I am with my 8 month old son, Grady. He is the light of my life and has brought so much hope and happiness to our family. We have had a very interesting year to say the least, and when today I found my self feeling a little bogged down by the weight of the world Grady crawled over to me, pulled himself up, got right in my face, smiled his sweet crooked smile, and gave me the best Ooey Gooey Slimy Kisses. Did it matter that my makeup was definitely smudged or that my face was now a little sticky? Nope! I am so thankful for the honest true love of a child, MY CHILD : )
